The most exciting part of it is that you are actually buying something that comes from the ass of a marsupial mammal that is usually found in the islands of Indonesia. Great, isn’t it?

Civet cat coffee is actually derived from the feces of civets that feed on ripe and red coffee berries. These feces are commonly called civet droppings and each bean that comes from these droppings is actually important to make a pound of this rare type of coffee.

So how are these coffees made?

First, let us talk about a short story pertaining to these precious coffees. Long before this type of coffee was discovered, the natives of Indonesia were prohibited to pick coffee berries from the coffee trees because these berries are only intended for high ranking people during those times. As a result, the natives craved so much for coffee that they find every means to have a coffee drink for themselves. This was the time when coffee beans from civet droppings were discovered. They cleaned, dried, and roasted the coffee and to their surprise, those types of coffee exuded the best quality which is far better than the ones coming from the trees. When the high ranking people had learned about this discovery, they insisted to have a taste and the rest was history. Civet coffee or Kopi Luwak had become their favorite.

Up to the present days, many people have become interested with this type of coffee. Many of these people are willing to spend a fortune for a cup of this interesting coffee.

Do you know that there are certain coffee shops that sell civet coffee for as high as 28 dollars a cup? However, there are also coffee shops that offer civet coffee for as low as 5 dollars a cup just to give the people the chance to have a different experience drinking coffee that comes from civets poop.
